The Restin' Ready
is patented in the US (Patent No. 6,691,973, Issued
February 17, 2004). This product concept is also patent
pending (Patent Cooperation Treaty) in the following
regions:
China, Hong Kong,
Canada, Australia, Japan,
New Zealand, South Korea, Italy, Spain, France,
United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Finland,
and other countries not listed.
These patent(s)
are of the "utility" variety. Utility patents are issued
for twenty years for four general types of inventions
or discoveries: machines, human-made products, compositions
of matter, and processing methods. Utility patents pertain
to the useful, or utilitarian, aspects of inventions,
and provide protection, not only for the original design,
but also for any obvious variations of the design made
by the patent holder. In other words, utility patents
are not limited to a specific embodiment. In contrast,
any modifications or embellishments to the original,
patented design by anyone other than the patent holder
are protected against and in violation of the patents
held by the inventor, James Barfield. In other words,
any design of a fishing rod holder comprised of independent
front and rear supports working in tandem to support
a fishing rod would fall under the patent protections
given James Barfield until the expiration of his patents.
It is Mr. Barfield's
desire to license the regional distribution and marketing
rights of this invention to those doing business in
geographical regions outside the United States. Exclusivity
will be entertained with a minimum yearly volume arrangement.
Anyone seeking to import the Restin' Ready into their
region should be prepared to purchase one container
per year at a minimum. A container holds 3,400 units,
which are pre-boxed for UPS shipping or retail distribution.
